Will Circumcision Hurt My Baby?

✔ The procedure is quick, lasting less than 2–3 minutes.
Do I Need a Physician Referral for Circumcision?

What Can I Expect My Baby to Be Like After Circumcision?
✔ Some babies may sleep for 6–8 hours after the procedure and may even miss a feeding.
✔ Others may be slightly irritable for a few minutes to hours.
✔ Most babies return to normal behavior within 24–48 hours.
The Gauze Is Sticky and Hard to Remove – What Should I Do?
✔ It is normal for the gauze to stick.
✔ To ease removal, soak the area in warm water and Vaseline for a few minutes before gently pulling off the bandage.
The Entire Vaseline Gauze Falls Off Before 24 Hours
✔ If the bandage falls off before 24 hours, leave it off.
✔ Simply replace it with a 4x4 gauze pad with Vaseline and place it over the penis for the first 48 hours.
There Is Stool on the Gauze or Penis
✔ Use warm, soapy water to gently clean the area as best as possible.
✔ Avoid scrubbing—gentle dabbing is best.
There Is Some Bleeding When the Gauze Is Removed
✔ A small amount of bleeding is normal.
✔ Take a gauze pad with Vaseline, and apply gentle pressure for two minutes to stop the bleeding.
✔ If bleeding continues, repeat the process once more.
✔ Call Dr. Stearn if the bleeding persists.
How Long Does It Take for Circumcision to Heal?
✔ Healing typically takes 7–14 days.
✔ The area may appear red, swollen, or have yellowish healing tissue during this time—this is normal.
Does It Hurt When My Baby Urinates?
✔ There may be mild discomfort on the first day, but after that, your baby should not feel pain while urinating.
